Homecoming Welcomed Alumni And Students To Paradise
The great Bethel Park Homecoming Tradition continued in 2015 with a "Welcome to Paradise" theme that had everyone in a festive mood!
The week began with the traditional Powderpuff Football Game at the Stadium between the Senior and Junior Girls. This year the Seniors emerged with a 33-14 victory over their underclass sisters.
The community got into the swing of things on Friday with the annual Tailgate in the Stadium Parking Lot, featuring games like corn hole and ring toss, face painting and snacks.
The Parade began a new route this year, from the Independence Middle School parking lot, down the access road into the Bladerunners parking lot and onto Black Hawk Drive, where hundreds of fans lined up to cheer the participants and perhaps get some candy that was thrown into the crowd by the parade participants.
Superintendent Nancy Aloi Rose led the parade as the Grand Marshall, followed by the Bethel Park High School Marching Band, the Homecoming Court, the Homecoming Award winners, senior cheerleaders, cheerleaders and various student groups, such as the Latin Club, Cross Country Team, FCCLA and the Drama Club.
Tropical-themed floats included an ocean and a black BP volcano.
Before the football game kicked-off, the Homecoming Committee was introduced and the Homecoming Awards were presented to Bethel Park High School Marketing Teacher/DECA Advisor Emily Smoller (Faculty Award), Campus Life Director/Baccalaureate Coordinator Chris Thompson (Service Award), Bethel Park High School seniors Kelsey Tischler and Andy Wagner (Spirit Award, presented this year in memory of beloved Bethel Park High School Custodian Mark Connell), and the Fabus Family (Joey Fabus Memorial Award for bringing the community together).
At halftime, the Homecoming Court was introduced: Cassie Brown, Natalie Lalama, Bailey Lawrence, Haley Reid, Wil Dunn, David Erzen, Zach Fullerton, Trey Williams and Grant Wilson. Last year's Homecoming "Royalty"--Queen Abby Thompson, Princess Athena Kalogeris, King Joe Papalia and Prince Ethan Wdowiak--came back to crown this year's "Royalty"--Queen Bailey Lawrence, Princess Kelsey Tischler, King Trey Williams and Prince Grant Wilson.
The Football Team did its part to keep the festivities going with a 69-21 victory over Canon McMillan, cheered on by the Bethel Park Hawk's Nest Student Section, dressed in tropical vacation clothing.
Saturday night the students enjoyed a "Welcome to Paradise" theme at the Homecoming Dance.
