Breeden Named Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction

Terri L. Breeden, Ed.D., has been named Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the Shaker Heights City School District, effective Sept. 30, 2015. She succeeds Dr. Marla Robinson, who assumed the position of Chief of Staff in July.

Breeden most recently served as Assistant Superintendent, Department of Instruction for the Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia, which serves a population of 80,000 students in 88 schools. Her areas of oversight included all major instructional areas, career and technical education, media services, virtual learning, early childhood education and gifted education, among others.

Breeden also worked extensively with the district’s minority student achievement committee and led the district’s extensive strategic planning initiative. In her previous role, she led the department of professional learning and accountability for the Fairfax County (Va.) Public Schools, where she also oversaw the state assessment program.

Prior to joining the Loudoun schools, Breeden was Executive Director for grades 5-12 with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Tennessee, where she provided leadership and support for all aspects of instructional programming, including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses, English as a second language, fine arts programming, and career and technical education.

Breeden began her career teaching at the elementary, middle school and high school levels in the Nashville schools, where she later served as a high school assistant principal and middle school principal.

Breeden holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Welch College in Nashville, a master’s of education, administration and supervision from Tennessee State University, and both a master’s degree in special education and doctorate of education from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University.

“Dr. Breeden’s talent and experience complement our district’s senior executive leadership team,” said Superintendent Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. “She will play an integral role in attaining our goal to engage all Shaker students in an enriching educational experience that enables them to graduate from high school prepared for success in college, career and life.”
