Forty-two Shaker Heights High School and Middle School students swept all three overall awards at the 2015 Ohio Junior Classical League Convention in Columbus.
The students won Overall Sweepstakes and Academic Per Capita, as they did in 2014, as well as a new award this year, Overall Per Capita.
Says High School Latin teacher Nora Murphy, “To win all three awards is a truly amazing feat and a great testament to our students.” Murphy is the faculty sponsor for the Latin Club at the High School.
In addition, both the Lower and Upper Certamen teams took home state titles, and two Shaker students were elected to the OJCL Board for next year: Junior Allison Kao was elected First Vice President and Sophomore Brian Johnson was elected Parliamentarian.
The students were accompanied by High School Latin teachers Mary Coffey, Nora Murphy and Bob White, as well as Middle School Latin teacher Andrew McCaffrey and retired Middle School Latin teacher Jane Troha.
Due to a last-minute change in venue caused by winter storm damage, the convention was shortened and the individual awards were announced at an awards ceremony on March 25.
