Principal Amy Davis Appointed Director of Curriculum

Amy L. Davis, principal at Onaway Elementary School since 2011, has been selected as the Director of Curriculum for the Shaker Heights City School District, effective July 1. The District will conduct a nationwide search to identify her successor.

In her new position, Ms. Davis will oversee the development of a unified curriculum that provides continuity of instruction, aligns with the new state academic content standards, and leverages the benefits of the International Baccalaureate Programme for all students in grades PreK-12.

Ms. Davis brings to her new role a varied background in both primary and secondary education. As Onaway's principal, she led her staff and 430 students through authorization of the IB Primary Years Programme. She has also been instrumental in the expansion and enhancement of the District's early childhood education programs.

Ms. Davis joined the Shaker faculty in 2004 and was both an American history teacher and chair of the special education department at Shaker Heights Middle School. While at the Middle School, Ms. Davis was a leader not only in special education, but also in IB planning and in the use of technology and data to improve instruction. Early in her career, Ms. Davis taught in elementary schools in Rocky River and Seville. She holds a B.A. in French from Allegheny College, a master's in special education from Baldwin-Wallace College, and a master's in educational administration at John Carroll University.

"Ms. Davis has the passion, experience and leadership skills to facilitate our curriculum development process for the benefit of all children," said Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr., Superintendent of Schools. "Her track record of meeting the needs of all learners in a diverse community will help us achieve our goal of increasing achievement for every student in the Shaker Schools."
