Shaker Students Excel at Chinese Language Contests

Shaker students excelled at the 2016 Ohio K-12 Chinese Speech and Essay Contests held Saturday, April 16, at Cleveland State University.

Jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University, the Ohio Association of Teachers of Chinese, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Akron, this was the fourth annual competition.

Woodbury fifth grader Jacob Zeng took home first prize for the elementary-level essay contest and his work will soon be published in the Erie Chinese Journal. Other Shaker fifth-grade students recognized with the Award for Excellence were Gabriel Jin, Lizzy Huang and Jonathan Jacques.

Seventh-grade students recognized with the Award for Excellence in Essay Writing were Jasmine Collier and Colin Mccabe. Eighth-grade students receiving the Award for Excellence in Essay Writing were Annabelle Abbott, Jackson Lang and Sharles Forbes. Maximus Wilson received the Award for Excellence in Speech.

Ninth-grade students Marie Claire Inniss, Wendy Ye, Madison Wilson, Ludiah Bagakas, Bryanna Jefferson, Wyatt Sweeney, Sophia Holtkamp and Nya Christian received the Award for Excellence for Essay Writing. Tenth graders Thomas Lang, Joseph Landow, Brandon Brown, Mia Bryant, Ose Arheghan and Caleb Owens received the Award for Excellence for Essay Writing, and 11th-grade student Sarah Manuszak was recognized with the Award for Excellence for Essay Writing.
