Congratulations to Woodbury’s Science Olympiad Team.

Highlights include first place awards in Disease Detectives (Ethan Byrnes and Shoshanah Calland), Don’t Bug Me (Mira Martin and Rebecca Huang), Water Quality (Jemma Barrett and Diya Swain), What Went By (Rebecca Huang and Jemma Barrett), Egg Drop (Ethan Byrnes and Will Taigen),
Science Bowl (Quinn Bruening-Wright and Lizzy Huang), and Sounds of Music (Lizzy Huang).
Second place awards went to Disease Detectives (Sophia Rose and Ana Halliburton), What Went By (Nora von der Heydt and CeCe Grimberg), Science Bowl (Adam Holbrook, Nikolai Ewing, Nora von der Heydt), and Sounds of Music (Sophia Rose and Gareth Sax).
Third place awards went to our teams in A is for Anatomy (Benjamin Jamal and Saija Shah), Bird ID (Quinn Bruening-Wright), and Experimental Design (Saija Shah and Alec Miller).
4th place medals went to Adam Holbrook and Nikolai Ewing for Bird ID, Sam Hren in Circuit Wizardry, CeCe Grimberg and Patrick Khayat in Tree ID, Julius Maximo and Sophie Marblestone in Mystery Design, and Ella Grey and Jasmine Hsich in Mousetrap Vehicle.

Placing 5th was Ben Schiavone in A is for Anatomy, Sachin Singh in Mystery Powders, Sam Hren and Lizzy Huang in Tree ID, Sachin Singh in Aerodynamics, Devin Bhatia and Diya Swain in Ready Aim Fire, and Alexander Gringas in Starry Night.
We could not have done it without our coaches - teachers Mrs. Brewster, Mrs. Deblock, Ms. Farinacci, Mr. Miller, and Ms. Nims. Volunteer-coaches included SHHS students Anna Walker and Krysta Aulak, Shaker alum Colin Sweeney, Onaway teacher Ms. Anne Cole. Parent coaches were Mr. Deepak Swain, Dr. Kerry Grimberg, Mrs. Tricia Khayat, Ms. Sharon Holbrook, Ms. Sandy Halliburton, Mrs. Laurie Pogel, Mrs. Jen Schiavone, Ms. Linda Jakob (Jemma Barrett’s mom), and Ms. Lynnette Phillips (Reese Turner’s mom). They all spent at least 12 hours coaching and many of them volunteered 8 additional hours at CWRU on Saturday. Other parents who helped at the Olympiad include Ms. Calland, Mr. Hsich, Mr. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Horn, Ms. Rizvi, Mr. Pogel, Ms. Pelletier, Ms. Swain, and Ms. Hren.
I also want to thank Sheila Scanlon for running one of the events and a special shout out goes to Kerry
Grimberg for assisting me with the chaperone schedule.
