December 12, 2017—At the December Board of Education meeting on Monday night, the District honored three outgoing members of the School Board whose terms end December 31. Board President Alex Liston Dykema and members Annette Tucker Sutherland and Todd Davidson each received a custom-made personalized chair to commemorate their years of service.
Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr., Superintendent of Schools, presented the outgoing members with their gifts and then shared a few words about each of them. "I want our community to understand that the relationship that the board and the superintendent has is very strong," Dr. Hutchings said. "I truly value the working relationship we share and the friendships that have grown over the past five years."
Ms. Tucker Sutherland leaves the board after 12 years of service. She was elected to her third term on the Board in 2013, served as Board Vice President in 2010 and 2011 and President in 2012 and 2013. "Annette as been an advocate for young people and sets the bar high for all of us," Dr. Hutchings said. "I believe our young people have benefitted from that."
Mr. Liston Dykema joined the board in 2014 and served as the Board's Vice President in 2016 and President in 2017. "You have passion for our schools and you possess the IB Learner Profile attributes, " Dr. Hutchings told Mr. Liston Dykema and the audience. "We thank you for leading by example."
Dr. Davidson was appointed to the Board in 2015 to complete the unfinished term of Amy Fulford. Dr. Hutchings thanked Dr. Davidson for his selfless service and for his willingness to step into the role. "This is a high functioning board and a wonderful school district," said Dr. Davidson. "It's been wonderful to be a part of something that's a national model for what boardsmanship is and what it means to serve."
