Senior Ose Arheghan Honored at Confucius Institute U.S. Center National Honors Gala in Washington DC

Shaker Heights High School senior Ose Arheghan joined nine other outstanding students from across the country to receive national honors for her Chinese language learning and cross-cultural experiences. Ose traveled to Washington D.C. on November 18 to be recognized at the National Honors Gala, hosted by the Confucius Institute U.S. Center.

Ose has studied Mandarin for six years and is currently enrolled in Mandarin 5 in the high school’s Confucius Classroom. She is the co-president of the SHHS Chinese club and has been awarded Excellence in Chinese essay writing awards for the past three years through Cleveland State University’s Confucius program. After high school, Ose hopes to continue studying Mandarin and major in International Relations.

The second annual National Honors Gala recognized the accomplishments of ten exemplary Confucius Institute (CI) students selected from CIs in universities and schools across the country, based on their personal stories, learning experiences, and active engagement with Chinese language development, cultural awareness, and global education programs.

The Confucius Institute U.S. Center (CIUS Center) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit educational institution based in Washington D.C. with the mission of strengthening educational and cultural exchanges and fostering ‘people-to-people’ interactions between China and the United States. The CIUS Center also supports 110 individual Confucius Institutes across the United States. To support and advance global education, Chinese language development and cross-cultural understanding programs, the CIUS Center engages and supports the directors of the 110 independent Confucius Institute network through four primary domains—education and professional development, arts and culture, academics and research, and public relations and strategic communications outreach.
