Glasner Accepts Middle School Principal Position

David Glasner, currently principal of a high school in New York City, has accepted the Shaker Heights Middle School principalship and will begin this summer.

Glasner emerged as the strongest of more than 50 applicants for the position and was recommended by an advisory interview panel made up of teachers, parents, and administrators. The selection criteria were based on extensive input from staff, students, and parents through focus groups, an online survey, and informal gatherings this month with both finalists (pictured).

Assistant Superintendent Marla Robinson visited Glasner’s school in New York last week to observe and talk with parents and colleagues there. Glasner also underwent an additional in-depth background check before being formally offered the position.

For the past five years, Glasner has served as principal of the Urban Assembly Academy of Government and Law, a public high school in New York. He holds a BA and an MA in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in secondary school social studies education from Teachers College, Columbia University, as well as administrative certification from the College of Saint Rose. “I want to thank all the staff members, students, and parents who took the time to share their thoughts and insights about the candidates,” said Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr., superintendent of schools. “Their participation helped lead us to the selection of a great candidate who has the potential to lead the Middle School to the next level.”
