CONCERT IN DANCE 2004

April 16 & 17, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 8:00 pm

The Shaker Heights High School Modern Dance Club presents its annual spring Concert in Dance. The performance will be a thematic offering, choreographed by special guests as well as the modern dance club students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the High School for $3 per person. Tickets the night of the performance are $7 per person.

KITCHEN & BATH TOUR

April 18, 1:00-4:00 pm

Come and see how Shaker homeowners have decorated and updated their kitchens and baths. Enjoy an afternoon of browsing through a variety of kitchen styles and designs that may just give you an idea or two for your own home. SPRING OPEN HOUSE-A PALETTE OF PERFORMANCES

April 21, Onaway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm

Onaway's Spring Open House spotlights students' academic and artistic performances. Tour our K-4 classrooms, stroll through the Art Walk, and attend a variety of musical performances on Onaway's revolving stage. Save the date! See you there!

EVENING OF JAZZ

April 22, Shaker Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm

Celebrate a special, rompin' evening of traditional and contemporary jazz at the 18th Annual Evening of Jazz. This swinging event features the highly acclaimed Middle School and Woodbury Jazz Bands as well as the High School's Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo. Bobby Selvaggio will be the guest artist.

MERCER OPEN HOUSE/GRADE 4 SPRING CONCERT

April 28, Mercer Elementary School Auditorium, 7:00-8:30 pm

Please join us for our Spring Open House. Our fourth grade students invite you to their musical performance. K-3 classrooms will be open, with student work on display throughout the building.

SPRING PRE-CONTEST BAND CONCERT

April 28, Shaker Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm

Come and enjoy an evening of outstanding band literature presented by the Middle School's five Symphonic and Concert Bands. Each band will perform pieces in preparation for the O.M.E.A. District Band Contest held in May.

THEATRE ENSEMBLES/SENIOR ADULT PREVIEW

April 28, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 2:00 pm

Senior adults are invited to preview the High School Theatre Ensembles at a special matinee. The Senior Ensemble offers highlights of its current performance repertoire, which will reflect work from a three-year workshop relationship with internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Institute. Admission is free. For information about transportation to and from this event, please call the Shaker Heights Senior Adult Office at 491-1350.

WOODBURY OPEN HOUSE

April 29, Woodbury Elementary School, 7:00 pm

Welcome! All members of the Woodbury community are invited to our Spring Open House. This time-honored tradition will feature all aspects of our challenging curriculum, as we showcase student projects in Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. A visual arts exhibit featuring student work in a variety of media will be displayed in the cafeteria. We also invite you to the main gym to view a wide variety of lifetime leisure activities.

SHAKER THEATRE ACTING ENSEMBLES

April 29-May 1, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 8:00 pm

The Senior Ensemble will be joined by the Junior and Advanced Ensembles on the Shaker Heights High School stage to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ensemble Theatre at Shaker. This year's work will reflect a three-year workshop relationship with internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theatre. The performance repertoire will include specialized movement, music, dance, and the spoken word in a moving and memorable performance setting. Bring the entire family and enjoy the unique work of Shaker's nationally recognized Theatre Department. Admission $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. HARLEM RENAISSANCE ART FAIR

April 30, Shaker Heights High School Courtyard, 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Come and view high school students' artwork honoring the Harlem Renaissance. Paintings, banners, posters, sculptures, ceramics, and jewelry will be displayed. Visit the senior art portfolio workshop, food booths, and The Cotton Club Lounge off the inner courtyard (rooms 007, 008, 010, and 011). Jewelry will be sold.

INTERNATIONAL NIGHT OF MUSIC

May 4, Shaker Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm

Enjoy an evening with international flair as the Shaker Middle School Seventh-Grade orchestra transports you to another world. Come and hear international music from Australia, Mexico, and France. You'll also hear some favorites, with America among the countries represented. Guest violinist Amand Huntoon will be featured as well as two of our Shaker seventh-grade pianists. Solo and Ensemble event awards will be presented.

SPRING CHORAL CONCERT

May 5, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 7:30 pm

The Chanticleers, Concert choirs, A Cappella Choirs, and Ensembles present an entertaining evening of song. Senior members will be honored in their farewell performance with the Shaker Choirs.

LOMOND OPEN HOUSE/INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

May 5, Lomond Elementary School, 7:00-9:00 pm

It's May Day! Lomond School blossoms with brilliant work on display. Our garden of knowledge includes finely trimmed reading and writing landscapes, annual bouquets of art and music, and perennial displays of math prowess. Visit Lomond-see our growth! Celebrate our world with the International Festival.

SPRING ORCHESTRA CONCERT/HIGH SCHOOL & EIGHTH GRADE ORCHESTRAS

May 6, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm

Enjoy orchestral sounds of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods in musical selections performed by the Middle School and High School orchestras. Seniors in the High School orchestras will be honored as they present their farewell performance with the Shaker Orchestras.

FERNWAY SPRING OPEN HOUSE

May 6, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00 pm

A cordial invitation to all Fernway students and their families! Please don't miss an opportunity to let your children show you their accomplishments. Come see the wonderful work by our students on display.

ICE CREAM SOCIAL & BAND CONCERT

May 11, Shaker Heights High School Front Lawn, 6:30 pm

A special Shaker family tradition continues when you join your neighbors for dessert and entertainment tonight! Enjoy your ice cream while listening to refreshing musical selections performed by the award-winning High School Bands. (In case of rain, this event will be moved to the gymnasium.)

WOODBURY SPRING CONCERT-BEGINNING AND ADVANCED STRING ORCHESTRA

May 12, Shaker Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm

Come see and hear Shaker's enthusiastic and energetic string orchestras perform at the Woodbury String Spring Concert. Several fifth and sixth grade piano soloists will be featured as well as Shaker String Ensembles. Music of Mexico, a British folk song, traditional Shaker music, and contemporary themes will be highlights of the program.

FOURTH ANNUAL MUSIC COMPOSITION CONCERT

May 12, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 7:30 pm

Members of the High School composition class will present their own works in concert composed and performed by Shaker students.

WOODBURY SPRING CONCERT

May 13, Shaker Middle School Auditorium, Beginning Band, 7:00 pm followed by

Advanced Band & Sixth Grade Jazz Band, 8:15 pm

Come see and hear Shaker's enthusiastic musicians perform at the Woodbury Spring Concert, featuring the Beginning Band, Advanced Band, and sixth-grade Jazz Band.

INCOMING KINDERGARTEN PARTY

May 15, Lomond Elementary School, 10:00 am-12:00 Noon

All future Lomond kindergartners are invited to board Lomond's "Magic School Bus" for the "I'm Going to be a Kindergartner Carnival." Ride on a school bus! Explore a kindergarten classroom! And, when you are done, visit the Lomond gym for games and crafts where you will meet new friends and their parents. Bring your bike to decorate and ride in our annual bike parade led by the principal, Dr. Svec, who rides his bike but doesn't decorate it!

SHAKESCENES

May 16, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 4:00 pm

The Shaker Theatre Department presents the final performance of the 2004 Shakescences class. The Celtic myth of the great Irish hero Cuchulain is this year's offering. The plays of two Irish playwrights and poets, Terrence Gray and William Butler Yeats, are the inspiration for our story, which features magic battles, song, and dance. Please join us. Admission by donation.

SHAKER BY STARLIGHT

May 19 and May 20, Shaker Heights High School Planetarium, 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm

Join award-winning teacher (and NASA Solar System Ambassador) Gene Zajac and members of the Astronomy Club for a special evening at the planetarium. The 45-minute program will include an update on the Mars mission, the night sky planets and comets visible, Saturn news, and the upcoming transit of Venus. Bring the family! Admission is free, but seating is limited. Make your reservations by e-mail or by calling 295-4319. Please give your name, time and date you wish to attend, and number of people attending.


SCIENCE SHARING NIGHT

May 19, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm

Fernway's third graders will be sharing science experiments and demonstrations during the day for classmates and in the evening for adults.

BOULEVARD FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS

May 20, Boulevard Elementary School Gym and Multipurpose Room, 7:00 pm

Boulevard's fourth grade students invite family, friends, and the community to their Arts and Music Show. Come share and celebrate a tapestry of their accomplishments and talents.

PRESCHOOL WELCOME TO FERNWAY

May 20, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm

Hey, Fernway Preschoolers! If you are coming to Fernway kindergarten this fall, bring your grown-up and come visit. You will hear a story in the library, join in some games in our gym, and ride a Shaker school bus.
