Shaker and CH-UH Choirs Share the Stage in a Special Joint Performance
October 20, 2006—Two of the area’s finest high school vocal music programs will share the stage in a special musical collaboration at the annual Heights High Fall Concert on Friday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cleveland Heights High School auditorium (13263 Cedar Road). The Shaker Heights High School A Cappella Choir will join the Cleveland Heights High School Singers and A Cappella Choir to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Regina Coeli, K. 276 for orchestra, choir, and soloists. An octet of selected singers from each school will sing the solo sections of the festive work. Shaker's soloists are Carrie Coverdale, Alexis Pounds, Danielle Arndt, Alex Brian, Kurt Tacastacas, Marcus Gates, Alex Tuma, and Aaron Dunn. Heights High soloists are Abby Skully, Tess Young, Lia Bendix, Chanea Curtis, Tyrone Conner, Dwayne Davis, Dan Bray, and John Kennibrew.
"We are adjacent communities and school districts with a long history of outstanding music and support for the arts,” said Dr. Robert Schneider, chair of the Shaker Heights High School Music Department and Director of Choirs. “It is exciting to finally come together through music."
Cleveland Heights High School Vocal Music Director Craig McGaughey is also excited about the collaboration between the two schools. “Working with the Shaker vocalists has been very exciting for our students and we’re learning a lot from each other,” McGaughey said. “It’s a natural partnership, and we are so thrilled they will be joining us and sharing their vocal abilities.”
Also performing individual group selections from their recent fall concert and showcasing their broad repertoire will be the Shaker Heights Chanticleers and the Shaker Heights A Cappella Choir. Groups performing from Cleveland Heights High School are the Heights Singers, A Cappella Choir, Men’s Chorus, and Women’s Chorus. Tickets are $6 (adults), and $4 (students and attendees aged 60 and over). For ticket information, contact the Heights High Vocal Music Department at 216-320-3106.
