High School Music & Theatre Departments Present 'Into the Woods'

The Shaker Heights High School Music and Theatre Arts Departments proudly present "Into the Woods," book by James Lapine, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

Directed by Cleveland theatre artist and department chair Christine McBurney with music direction by Dr. Robert Schneider, the production features more than 100 students in roles ranging from performers, orchestra members, and stage managers, to graphic designers, carpenters, and fundraisers. The adult team includes three full-time staff members from the Theatre Arts Department, two from the Music Department, and six guest artists, including longtime choreographer Wendy Lynne, and Shaker graduates Matt Thornton ’92 and Tracy Nicole Chapman ’88.

Lynne has created a non-traditional movement “chorus” of performers. Thornton, who performed most recently with Pilobolus Dance Theatre and who spent his third consecutive weeklong workshop with the ensemble program, also contributed, collaborating with Lynne. Chapman has performed in numerous Broadway productions, including "Caroline, or Change" and "The Lion King," as well as the 2002 Broadway revival of "Into the Woods." Chapman provides the voice of the Giant.

Performances of "Into the Woods" are at 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, Friday, December 1, and Saturday, December 2nd at the Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior adults, and may be purchased by calling the box office at 216-295-4287.
