Shaker Senior Becomes Published Author

February 27 , 2006 - In her recently published book Celtic Night, Shaker Heights High School senior Bridget O’Dwyer retells Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream through the adventures of fifteen-year-old Sarah Ryan, who travels from Syracuse, New York, to Ireland to spend six months with relatives she has never met.

One of three winners of the 2005 Fresh Writers Books contest, Bridget was awarded a summer-writing grant to complete her manuscript. Young writers signed to the publishing imprint meet ten weekly 15-page writing deadlines, and are also given the opportunity to gain a firm understanding of the publishing industry.

The daughter of Matt O’Dwyer and Sari Feldman, Bridget is co-editor of the Gristmill, Shaker Heights High School’s yearbook. In her book, Bridget acknowledges Charles Kelly, her tenth-grade English teacher who recommended her for the contest, for his support of her writing endeavors.
