Shaker Heights High School
will present Pippin, the Tony-winning musical about the
son of Charlemagne, in December. Produced by Erik Johnson
and Christine McBurney and directed
by James Thornton with musical direction by Robert
Schneider, the show opens with an invitational preview
December 1 and public performances at 8 p.m. December 2, 3, and
4.
The musical, with a book
by Robert O. Hirson and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, opened
on Broadway in 1972. It ran for 1,944 performances and has become
a staple of high school and college theatre programs, with its tongue-in-cheek
humor, rock-influenced score, and elements of circus, ballet, and
magic show.
The Leading Player tells
us the tongue-in-cheek story of Pippin, son of the 8th-Century King
Charlemagne, who is on a quest to find his true calling in life.
He experiences war, love, politics and other pursuits before settling
down with the widow Catherine and her son.
Pippin is best suited for mature audiences. Tickets are $10 for adults
and $5 for students and senior adults. Download
