Ground Broken for ‘Peter's
Garden' at Onaway
October 19, 2004 -- Site
preparation is in progress for the creation of a learning garden
at Onaway School that will honor the memory of Peter Morgenstern-Clarren,
'99, who attended Onaway and tutored there prior to his death last
spring.
Funded entirely by more than
350 private donors and his family, ‘Peter's Garden'
will cover about 20,000 square feet in front of Onaway and is intended
for both school and community use.
The garden will be composed
of three main areas: The observation section will include a small
butterfly garden, a bird habitat, and a human sundial plaza; the
performing area will feature an open amphitheater that can hold
as many as 60 students; and in the dreaming garden, children will
find wooden benches and chairs for reading and thinking, as well
as a built-in chess board.
The garden site is currently
being prepared for construction, which is scheduled to begin later
this fall. Planting will take place in the late spring and summer,
while the opening of the garden is projected for next October.
