Shaker Named One of
the Nation's Ten Most Playful Towns

Shaker Heights has been named
one of the nation's ten most playful towns by Nick, Jr.
Family Magazine . The magazine chose Shaker as "a
great place to live for families with young children."
Shaker and the other nine communities were chosen out of thousands
of towns based on eleven criteria. Winners had to meet
or exceed at least seven of the following criteria:
- Schools performing in the top third
of their states
- Student/teacher ratio below 16/1
- Expenditure per student above $7,500
- Safe neighborhoods
- Median age of residents below 43
- Median housing price (less than 3x
median family income)
- Within 50 miles of a major city
- Extensive library programs
- Myriad ways to enjoy outdoor activities
- Access to the arts
- Population between 2,500 and 50,000
The April 2004 issue of the magazine appeared
on newsstands March 23.
