Satirist Andy Borowitz '76 To Speak at City Club

Shaker Heights grad Andy Borowitz, '76, award-winning writer, comedian and actor, is sure to stir things up as he makes a visit to The City Club to discuss "Satire: Winning the War on Reality" at a Friday Forum on May 28 at 12:30pm.

Borowitz grew up in Shaker Heights and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, where he was President of the Harvard Lampoon and wrote the Hasty Pudding Show.

While performing as a stand-up comedian his senior year, he was discovered by Hollywood producer Bud Yorkin, Norman Lear's partner on the hit TV show "All in the Family," who hired him to work as a comedy writer. He had a successful fifteen-year career as screenwriter, movie producer and creator of television shows. He is perhaps best known for creating the hit TV series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," which launched the acting career of Will Smith, and for producing the film "Pleasantville," which was nominated for four Academy Awards.

In 1995, Borowitz moved from L.A. to New York to resume his career as a comedian and actor, and has since become one of the most popular and celebrated satirists in America. His humor appears in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vanity Fair and at Newsweek.com. His daily satire website, The Borowitz Report, has won five Dot-Comedy awards and is read by millions around the world.

Called "a budding movie star" by The New York Daily News, he appears in two movies in 2004: "Marie and Bruce" and Woody Allen's latest feature film starring Will Ferrell. He appears on CNN's "American Morning," NPR's "Weekend Edition Sunday," and in live stand-up performances across the country.

He is the author of four books, including bestseller Who Moved My Soap? The CEO's Guide to Surviving in Prison.
