November 3, 2004 -- Voters in the Shaker Heights City School District
yesterday approved a $23.5-million bond issue to pay for repairs
and maintenance for schools and public libraries. The unofficial
vote totals were 12,441 (68%) for the bond issue and 5,946 (32%)
against.
Superintendent of Schools
Mark Freeman expressed gratitude for the community's support.
"On behalf of the Board
of Education, staff, and students of the Shaker Heights City School
District, I want to thank the residents of our community for their
support of the bond issue for the schools and the Shaker Heights
Public Library," he said. "Thanks in particular to the
hundreds of school and library volunteers who worked on behalf of
the issue.
"We will plan carefully
to get the maximum benefit from the bond issue proceeds. We look
forward to using these resources to continue providing a safe and
appropriate learning environment for Shaker's children."
Proceeds from the bond
issue will be used for projects such as window and door replacements,
roof repairs, upgrades of electrical and fire alarm systems, and
replacement of aging technology. The issue will cost property owners
approximately $61.25 per year for each $100,000 of value.
