December 10, 2004 -- John Addison has been appointed interim principal of Boulevard Elementary School, effective from January 1 through the end of the current school year. He will succeed Rebecca Kimberly, who is retiring December 31 after more than 17 years at Boulevard.
Addison joined the Shaker staff in 1978 as director of the Push-Excel program. He has been an assistant principal at both the elementary and secondary levels in Shaker. A former English and social studies teacher in Cleveland, he holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio University and a master's in education administration from Cleveland State University
Following is the text of a letter sent to Boulevard families by Bernice Stokes, Executive Director of Elementary Education:
I am pleased to announce that John Addison, a veteran administrator for the Shaker Heights schools, has agreed to serve as interim principal at Boulevard for the remainder of this school year. Many of you probably know Mr. Addison, who served with distinction as an assistant principal at Woodbury and the High School prior to retiring. He has worked periodically as a substitute administrator since his retirement and most recently has been part of the leadership team at Lomond School during the principal’s extended absence.
In addition to extensive experience, Mr. Addison brings to this assignment great passion, integrity, and commitment to children, and I know that he will work well with the Boulevard staff and parent community. Mr. Addison and his wife live in Shaker Heights and are the parents of two Shaker students.
You will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Addison shortly after the winter break. Watch the Friday Flyer for details.
The District is conducting a search for a permanent successor to Dr. Kimberly, with the goal of having the new principal in place for the beginning of the 2005-06 school year. We will consider both internal and external candidates.
We have all benefited enormously from Dr. Kimberly’s 17 years of expert leadership at Boulevard. I know that you join me in thanking her for her service and wishing her all the best in retirement. I am confident that Boulevard will be in good hands. I thank you for your dedication to our children’s achievement and for your cooperation during the coming transition.
Sincerely,
Bernice Stokes
