August 20, 2004

Dear Lomond Parents & Guardians:

As you may be aware, Dr. Svec has been ill this summer and underwent surgery. It was his hope to be back at school by mid-September, but he was just released from the hospital and will need more time for rest and recuperation. He will return to school when his recovery is complete.

Be assured that your children will be in capable hands. Susan Alig, Lomond's assistant principal, will be in charge until Dr. Svec is able to return to school. In addition, John Addison, a retired Shaker administrator whose children attended Lomond, has graciously agreed to help Ms. Alig with administrative duties as needed. Ms. Alig and the staff have been working diligently to ensure a smooth opening of school.

Dr. Svec is not receiving visitors or phone calls at this time, but he would enjoy hearing from Lomond families. Any cards sent to the Lomond office will be delivered to him. I know that he will appreciate your support and good wishes.

Thank you for your continued support of Lomond's children. Dr. Svec looks forward to seeing all of you when he returns to school.

Sincerely,

Bernice Stokes
Executive Director of Elementary Education
