CONCERT IN DANCE 2005 April 15 & 16, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 8:00 pm The Shaker Heights High School Modern Dance Club presents its annual spring Concert in Dance. The performance will be a thematic offering, choreographed by special guests as well as the modern dance club students. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the High School for $3 per person. Tickets the night of the performance are $7 per person. SPRING OPEN HOUSE — ARTISTIC SNAPSHOTS April 20, Onaway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm Onaway's Spring Open House spotlights students' academic and artistic talents. Tour K-4 classrooms, stroll the Art Walk, and attend musical performances on Onaway's "revolving stage". See you there! EVENING OF JAZZ April 21, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm Celebrate a special evening of jazz with some of the top high school, middle school, and elementary jazz ensembles in the state. This year's "Evening of Jazz" will be filled with sounds of swing, funk, bebop, fun, and special guest stars. HIGH SCHOOL SPRING ORCHESTRA CONCERT April 26, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm Enjoy orchestral sounds of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern periods in musical selections performed by the High School orchestras. Seniors in the High School orchestras will be honored as they present their farewell performance with the Shaker Orchestras. THEATRE ENSEMBLES — SENIOR ADULT PREVIEW April 27, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 2:00 pm Senior adults are invited to preview the High School Theatre Ensembles at a special matinee. The Senior Ensemble offers highlights of its current performance repertoire, which will reflect work from a three-year relationship with internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theatre. Admission is free. For information about transportation to and from this event, please call the Shaker Heights Senior Adult Office at 491-1350. MERCER OPEN HOUSE & GRADE 4 SPRING CONCERT April 27, Mercer Elementary School Auditorium, 7:00-8:30 pm Please join us for our Spring Open House. Our fourth-grade students invite you to their musical performance. K-3 classrooms will be open, with student work on display throughout the building. SPRING PRE-CONTEST BAND CONCERT April 28, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm Come and enjoy an evening of outstanding band literature presented by the Middle School's five Symphonic and Concert Bands. Each band will perform pieces in preparation for the O.M.E.A. District Band Contest held in May. WOODBURY OPEN HOUSE April 28, Woodbury Elementary School, 7:00 pm Welcome! All members of the Woodbury community are invited to our Spring Open House. This time-honored tradition will feature all aspects of our challenging curriculum, as we showcase student projects in Language Arts, Science, Math, and Social Studies. A visual arts exhibit featuring student work in a variety of media will be displayed in the cafeteria. We also invite you to the main gym to view a wide variety of lifetime leisure activities. SHAKER THEATRE ACTING ENSEMBLES April 28-30, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 8:00 pm The Senior Ensemble will be joined by the Junior and Advanced Ensembles on the Shaker Heights High School stage to celebrate the 26th anniversary of Ensemble Theatre at Shaker. The performance repertoire will include specialized movement, music, dance, and the spoken word in a moving and memorable performance setting. This year marks the first year with Ensemble Director Erik Johnson, '98, and continues under the Artistic Direction of James Thornton with alumni and guest artists contributing to the work. Bring the entire family and enjoy the unique work of Shaker's nationally recognized Theatre Department. Admission $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. MEXICAN ART FAIR April 29, Shaker Heights High School Courtyard, 10:00 am-3:00 pm All Art Department students will create art works relating to Mexican culture and life. On display will be ceramics, jewelry, painting, drawing, airbrushed tee shirts, and sculpture. The event will be in the High School Courtyard and designated art rooms. ICE CREAM SOCIAL & BAND CONCERT May 3, Shaker Heights High School Front Lawn, 6:30 pm A special Shaker family tradition continues when you join your neighbors for dessert and entertainment tonight! Enjoy your ice cream while listening to refreshing musical selections performed by the award-winning High School Bands. (In case of rain, this event will be moved to the gymnasium.) FERNWAY SPRING OPEN HOUSE May 4, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00 pm A cordial invitation to all Fernway students and their families! Enjoy the wonderful work on display as we showcase our students' growth and accomplishments. SPRING CHORAL CONCERT May 4, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 7:30 pm The A Cappella Choirs, Chanticleers, Concert Choir, and A Cappella Ensembles will present an evening of song. Senior members of the choirs will be recognized and a reception will follow the concert. Come hear our talented singers! LOMOND OPEN HOUSE/INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL May 4, Lomond Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm It's May Day! Lomond School blossoms with brilliant work on display. Our garden of knowledge includes finely trimmed reading and writing landscapes, annual bouquets of art and music, and perennial displays of math prowess. Visit Lomond — see our growth! Celebrate our world with the International Festival. WOODBURY SPRING CONCERT — BEGINNING AND ADVANCED STRING ORCHESTRAS May 5, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm Come see and hear Shaker's enthusiastic and energetic string orchestras perform at the Woodbury String Spring Concert. Several pianists will be featured as will string ensembles, music of France, the Music Masters, Beethoven, Dvorak, and Tchaikovsky. Traditional Shaker music and contemporary themes will complete the highlights of the program. SHAKER MIDDLE SCHOOL SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE ORCHESTRAS SPRING CONCERT May 10, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm Enjoy an evening of international flair as the Shaker Middle School seventh and eighth grade orchestras transport you to another world. Music of the masters, international themes, and American favorites will be represented. Solo and Ensemble Event Awards will be presented. SPRING CONCERT — 5TH GRADE BAND May 11, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm Come see and hear Shaker's enthusiastic 5th graders from Woodbury perform their spring concert. They are great! FIFTH ANNUAL MUSIC COMPOSITION CONCERT May 12, Shaker Heights High School Large Auditorium, 7:30 pm Members of the High School composition class will present their own works in a concert composed and performed by Shaker students. WOODBURY SPRING CONCERT May 12, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:00 pm Come see and hear the 6th Grade, Advanced Band, and Jazz Band perform their Spring Concert. You will enjoy every minute of it! INCOMING KINDERGARTEN PARTY May 14, Lomond Elementary School, 10:00 am-Noon All future Lomond kindergartners are invited to board Lomond's "Magic School Bus" for the "I'm Going to be a Kindergartner Carnival." Ride on a school bus! Explore a kindergarten classroom and meet new friends and their parents. Bring your bike to decorate and ride in our annual bike parade led by the principal, who rides a bike but doesn't decorate it! SHAKESCENES May 15, Shaker Heights High School Auditorium, 4:00 pm The Shaker Theatre Department presents the final performance of the 2005 Shakescenes class. Thornton Wilder's award-winning comedy "The Skin of Our Teeth" explores the enduring strength of the family through the Ice Age, Great Flood, and modern nuclear warfare. Please join us. Admission by donation. SHAKER BY STARLIGHT May 18 & 19, Shaker Heights High School Planetarium, 6:30 pm & 7:30 pm Join Planetarium Director (and NASA Solar System Ambassador) Gene Zajac and members of the Astronomy Club for a special evening at the planetarium. The 45-minute program will include an update on the Mars mission discoveries, the summer sky, visible planets, and the recent discoveries concerning Saturn and its large moon, Titan. SCIENCE SHARING NIGHT May 18, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm Fernway's third graders will be sharing science experiments and demonstrations during the day for classmates and in the evening for adults. BOULEVARD FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS May 19, Boulevard Elementary School Gym and Multipurpose Room, 7:00 pm Boulevard's fourth-grade students invite family, friends, and the community to their Musical and Art Show. Come share and celebrate a tapestry of their accomplishments and talents. PRESCHOOL WELCOME TO FERNWAY May 19, Fernway Elementary School, 7:00-8:00 pm Hey, Fernway Preschoolers! If you are coming to Fernway kindergarten this fall, bring your grown-up and come visit. You will hear a story in the library, join in some games with our P.E. teachers, and ride a big, yellow Shaker school bus! SPRING CHORAL CONCERT May 24, Shaker Heights Middle School Auditorium, 7:30 pm The Seventh-Grade Chorus, the Eighth-Grade Chorus, and the Chorale Ensemble culminate their year of music with a spring choral concert. Come hear their budding talents burst into bloom.
