Fire Damages Lab at
Middle School; No Injuries
A science laboratory at Shaker Heights Middle School sustained
smoke damage and broken windows in a fire the evening of Wednesday,
March 10. No one was injured and the Middle School will be open
on Thursday, with arrangements made to relocate the classes that
meet in the damaged room.
The fire alarm in the Middle School sounded around 6:10 p.m. Custodial
and security personnel responded immediately and found a fire in
the lab, which was unoccupied at the time. They tried to put the
fire out and summoned the Shaker Heights Fire Department, which
arrived within minutes and extinguished the fire. The staff and
students who were still in the building for after-school activities
all got out safely. Adjacent classrooms were not damaged.
The Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
