PTO Council Presents Dynamic Speaker On Disability Issues

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio – Mario Duncan, a nationally known motivational speaker, will give a presentation at 7:30 p.m. on October 3 at Shaker Heights Middle School, 20600 Shaker Boulevard. The presentation is free and open to the public, courtesy of the Shaker Heights PTO Council.
 
Born with cerebral palsy, Duncan has learned to conquer physical and attitudinal barriers in everyday life. He has earned a reputation for motivating young people with disabilities and educating the general public on a variety of disability-related topics.

Duncan has a B.A. in Sociology from Wright State University. He has worked as a Job Coordinator with the Environmental Protection Agency and as a Disabilities Advocate for the Internal Revenue Service.

Currently, Duncan is a Leadership/Education Specialist at The Ability Center of Greater Toledo. This year, he delivered over 300 motivational and informational presentations. His message reached more than 3,500 students in 25 different school districts throughout the Midwest area. Duncan specializes in talking to parents, mentors and families, encouraging them to seek information, and act upon what they receive. Mario Duncan believes that his life is an example of self-determination, perseverance and resolution.

His topics on October 3 will include:

• Developing self-esteem and respect

• Setting personal goals and plans

• Acknowledging and respecting diversity

• Loving your children without spoiling them
