4 Administrative Appointments Approved

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (June 27, 2001) – Four new members have been appointed to the Shaker Heights City School District's management team to replace departing administrators.

“These are outstanding additions to our management team,” said Mark Freeman, superintendent of schools. “While we are sorry to see longtime colleagues leave, we have been fortunate to attract people with solid credentials, valuable experience and fresh perspectives. This infusion of new talent helps to keep the organization moving forward.”

The appointees, who will assume their duties this summer, are:

J. Lindsay Florence
Assistant Principal at Woodbury Elementary School
A former health and physical education teacher, Mr. Florence served from 1992-2000 as a staff assistant and subsequently assistant principal at Shaker Heights Middle School. He spent the past year as a principal in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He holds a bachelor's degree from Ohio Northern University and a master's in education administration from Cleveland State University. He replaces Mark Sakowski, who is returning to the classroom as a 6th-grade teacher at Woodbury.

Kathy Fredrick
Director of Library Media and Instructional Technology
Ms. Fredrick currently serves as high school media specialist and district coordinator of media services in the Twinsburg school district. She previously served as technology director in the Twinsburg schools and has extensive experience as a school and corporate librarian, both in the United States and abroad. She holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin and has been active in professional organizations. She replaces Ellen M. Stepanian, who has retired after more than 30 years of service to the Shaker Heights schools.

Eric D. Hutchinson
Assistant Principal at Shaker Heights High School
Mr. Hutchinson joined the Shaker faculty in 1996 as an English teacher at Shaker Heights Middle School. He has also served as a faculty advisor to the Shaker Scholars, a student group dedicated to improving academic achievement among African-American students. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Toledo, as well as an educational specialist degree in curriculum, instruction and supervision from Cleveland State University. He taught in the Atlanta area before coming to Northeast Ohio and has taught during summers at Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility. He will replace Ovella Roulette-McIntyre, who has resigned to become principal of Cleveland Heights High School.

David B. Puffer
Business Administrator
Mr. Puffer comes to Shaker Heights from the Nordonia Hills school district in Summit County, where he has served in a similar capacity. While in Nordonia, he has been responsible for a $38.5-million program of renovation and new construction, as well as day-to-day management activities in school operations. Prior to coming to Northeast Ohio, he served as director of facilities and dean of students at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. He holds a bachelor's degree from Brown University and a master's in library science from the University of Rhode Island. He replaces Carlton J.
