46 Shaker Seniors Named National Merit and Achievement Scholars

Forty-six Shaker Heights High School seniors have been honored by the National Merit and National Achievement Scholarship Programs this year. These students were selected on the basis of their scores on the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test, which also serves as the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). They represent about 13% of the current senior class and are in the top 2% in Ohio.
Their performance places Shaker once again among Ohio’s top schools for the number of students honored in these competitions. Semifinalists will continue in national competition for merit scholarships. Both Semifinalists and Commended Students are considered top candidates for highly selective institutions of higher education and will be eligible for other competitive scholarships.
“Long before I came to Ohio, I knew about the tradition of excellence at Shaker Heights High School. Now I am proud to be a part of it,” said Principal Michael Griffith. “Our academic program represents a long-standing tradition of excellence that is a model for schools throughout the country. Our 46 honorees exemplify the high standards we aspire to for all students at Shaker Heights High School. We take great pride in the recognition students receive for outstanding academic achievement. Congratulations to each of this year’s recipients.”
