Shaker Heights High Scores First in Ohio on National Engineering Examination
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio, April 7, 1999 – Eight students from Shaker Heights High School finished first in the state on the Junior Engineering and Technical Society’s TEAM test. This nationally administered test is designed to challenge problem-solving skills in engineering.
When the results were compared with those from 46 other high schools of similar size, Shaker’s composite score of 70 out of 100 placed it first in Ohio.
The following students are on this state championship team (graduating class given in parentheses): Greg Burton (’99); Zachary Davis (’99); Kate Goheen (’99); Whitney Karfeld (’00); Alan Murphy (’99); Amit Ranade (’00); Dashi Singham (’00); and Xiaowen Xin (’99). Their current science teachers are John Schutter, physics, and H. Clair Rankin, chemistry. Schutter coaches the team.
National results will be announced at the end of April.
