The Shaker Heights Latin Club members have done it again, returning victorious from the Ohio Junior Classical League convention.
The team members are seniors Andrew Kulinski and Helen Morgenstern; juniors Stephanie Goldfarb, Natalie King, Carolyn Stange, Katie Stamm, and Anthony Lanese; sophomores Susanna Pretzer, Katie Ryan, Cyrus Taylor, and Max Rothman; freshmen Katie Crowley, Allison Lanese, Michael Cowett, Melissa Freilich, and Alex Almasan; and 8th graders Chris Piraino, Pranjal Vachaspati, Miriam Chelimsky, Samantha Goldfarb, and Victoria Goldfarb.
In addition, Stephanie Goldfarb became the first student from Shaker Heights to be elected president of the OJCL. Michael Cowett has been appointed Northeast Ohio Gubernator, and he will be in charge of co-ordinating the activities of all the Latin Clubs in the area.
The Club Scrapbook received a 1st place. The Lower Certamen team (Michael Cowett, Katie Crowley, Allison Lanese, Melissa Freilich) was 2nd in the State. In total sweepstakes points Shaker was 4th in the state (we were a team of 21 students, compared to the top two scoring schools which each brought 55 students). In Academic Per Capita points Shaker was again 2nd in the State. Shaker has been ranked as one of the top 3 schools since 1999. Several students need to be recognized for their individual academic achievements for their ranking in the State: Pranjal Vachaspati was 7th, Anthony Lanese was 3rd, and Michael Cowett was 2nd. These same three young men also ranked high in the state when all the contest points were compiled: Anthony Lanese was 10th, Pranjal Vachaspati was 7th, and Michael Cowett was 4th.
