Middle School Junior Model UN Club Shines in Debut

The Middle School's Junior Model United Nations Club excelled in its first-ever trip to the Junior Ohio Model United Nations competition in Columbus over the weekend.

Team Ireland (Samantha Goldfarb, Victoria Goldfarb, Maeve Willis, Callum Orr, and Ayush Sood) won an Outstanding Nation award for their overall work. Only 3 of these were handed out and there were 130 nations. Ireland won an International Talent Showcase runner-up award for their musical talent and Irish dancing. Maeve danced, Sam played the Irish tin whistle, Tori the flute, Callum the drum, and Ayush the guitar. Victoria Goldfarb also helped her team by winning a runner-up award in the Peace Essay contest. Ireland scored a 34 out of 36 on their written resolution about property rights and their resolution made it to the General Assembly.

Team Lebanon (Sebastian Wocial, Diane Ryu, Georgia Haddad, Maeve Metheny, Emma Bresnahan, Tyler Tevis) scored a 35 out of 36 on their written resolution on creating a city state in Jerusalem and their resolution made it to the General Assembly. Georgia Haddad won an Outstanding Delegate award for her debating skills.

Team Rwanda (Hannah Thompson, Rachel Leonard, Murphy Metheny, Bridget Mearns) scored a 32 out of 36 on their written resolution on AIDS education in Africa. All 3 Shaker teams received Outstanding Ratings on their written resolutions.
