Shaker Heights High School’s Science Olympiad Club will advance to the state tournament after a strong performance at the regional tournament held at Case Western Reserve University on February 24. The next round of competition will take place on April 14 at The Ohio State University.
Team members include: Kevin Benton, Soham Chakraborty, Samantha Goldfarb, Stephanie Goldfarb, Tori Goldfarb, Haadea Khan, Daniel Kim, Rebecca Kimmelfield, Jenny Kutik, Nate Langhinrichs, Sarah Leonard, Charlie Merriam, Diana Merriam, Kirsten Nedrud, Emily Nosse-Leirer, Christopher Piraino, Mark Piraino, Scott Piraino, Susanna Pretzer, Peter Schiraldi, David Stahl, Daniel Strassfeld, Cyrus Taylor, James Urban, Patrick White, and Maeve Willis.
The following students earned medals at the regional tournament: David Stahl and Charlie Merriam, first place in Fermi Questions; Daniel Strassfeld and Peter Schiraldi, first place in Forensics; Patrick White and Daniel Strassfeld, second place in Remote Sensing; Daniel Strassfeld and Peter Schiraldi, third place in Chemistry Lab; and Daniel Kim and Stephanie Goldfarb, third place in Physics Lab.
The coaches who helped prepare the students for the competition are David Klapholz, Amy Knisely, and Michael Becker.
