The Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department proudly presents The Importance of Being Earnest, “a trivial play for serious people” by Oscar Wilde.
Directed and co-produced by Cleveland theatre artist and department chair Christine McBurney, the production features more than 60 students in a variety of roles ranging from performance and managerial to promotional and technical. The adult staff consists of co-producer Erik Johnson, who pairs with Wendy Lynne as movement specialists, technical director Chuck Tisdale and adult stage manager Joel Rathbone.
This year’s performance will take place at the Cleveland Play House. Shaker Theatre is excited for the opportunity to perform on the stage of the Brooks Theatre, while our own historic Large Auditorium undergoes a major restoration project.
Performances of The Importance of Being Earnest are at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5th, Thursday, December 6th, Friday, December 7th, and Saturday, December 8th. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior adults, and may be purchased by calling the box office at 216-295-4287. Complimentary parking passes are available if tickets are picked up in person at the Shaker Theatre Box Office, located off the Large Auditorium lobby at the High School. Without a pass, parking at the Cleveland Play House is $7.

Named a center of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English, Shaker Theatre includes daily classes and a production season including four mainstage performances and six “showcase” performances and special events.
