March 28, 2008 — Woodbury’s mathematics team placed second out of 143 teams in the Ohio Mathematics League competition, finishing with 181 points. The team title went to Edwin H. Greene Intermediate School in Cincinnati, with 185 points, and third place was shared by Hawken Middle and Mason Intermediate, with 165. In individual competition, Leo Izen tied for first place in the state, Matthew Podl was fifth, Anna Katz was ninth, Sameer Apte was 19th, and Clare Mearns, Kevin White and Luke Zhu tied for 23rd.
Awards are based on the students’ performance on a test covering exponents, fractions, reciprocals, decimals, rates, ratios, percents, angle measurement, perimeter, area, patterns, sequences, integers, triangles and other topics.
In addition, Leo Izen and Luke Zhu placed first in the U.S. in the Continental Math League, a separate competition.
