May 23, 2007 – Twenty Shaker Heights High School students earned honors on the 2007 National Spanish Exam sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
The National Spanish Examination is a standardized assessment tool given voluntarily by more than 3,000 teachers throughout the United States to measure proficiency and achievement of students who are studying Spanish as a second language.
The following students earned the Medalla de Plata (silver medal): Suzanne Arian, Nicholas Boyd, Audrey Gyurgyik, and Sonia Misra.
The following students were awarded the Medalla de Bronce (bronze medal): Hyunho Lee, Kristen Sinicariello, and Gabriel Weinstein.
The following students received Premio de Excelencia (honorable mention): Aaron Abelson, Robert Abrams, Milan Aviles, Thomas Chokel, Cecilia Culp, Naomi Garner, Emily Janata, Mike Kooser, Ma’ayan Marcus, Daniel Snider, Jenna Stahl, John Thomas, and Peter Williams.
A number of these students also received honors in other areas. In the Regular category, Audrey Gyurgyik placed first in Northeast Ohio, and Hyunho Lee placed third. In the Outside Experience category, Sonia Misra placed first in Northeast Ohio, and Milan Aviles placed second. In the Bilingual category, Nicholas Boyd placed first in Northeast Ohio.
