May 23, 2007 – More than 30 Shaker Heights High School students placed in the top 20 percent nationally in the 2007 National French Contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. A number of students also earned top state and national rankings and silver or bronze medals.

In French Level 2A: Torhi Beidleman, 80th percentile; Grace Crosby, 80th percentile; Rose Egelhoff, 90th percentile; Margaret Green, 80th percentile; Joanna Hachtel, 80th percentile; Nora Harris, 85th percentile; Connor Hunt, 90th percentile; Valerie Kilmer, 85th percentile; Patrick Matthews, 85th percentile; Robin Meiksins, 95th percentile, rank 7 in Ohio and 8 in the nation, bronze medal recipient; Caelyn Rosch, 95th percentile, rank 6 in Ohio and 7 in nation, bronze medal recipient; and Harper Sutherland, 90th percentile.

In French Level 3A: Jenny Waletzky, 90th percentile, rank 7 in Ohio and 9 in the nation, bronze medal recipient.

In French Level 3C: Ambre Bethoux, 90th percentile, rank 7 in Ohio and 9 in the nation, bronze medal recipient; and Amadou Gueye, 95th percentile, rank 6 in Ohio and 8 in nation, bronze medal recipient.

In French Level 4A: Alyssa Cohen, 80th percentile; Megan Findling, 85th percentile; Anne Gabriel, 85th percentile; Alison Goodman, 80th percentile; Chris Irvine, 90th percentile, rank 6 in Ohio and 10 in the nation, bronze medal recipient; Lena Newman, 95th percentile, rank 3 in Ohio and 7 in the nation, silver medal recipient; Robert Owen, 90th percentile; Elizabeth Seitz, 80th percentile; and Julia Wilson, 90th percentile.

In French Level 4C: Charles Muhammad, 95th percentile, rank 4 in Ohio and 8 in the nation, bronze medal recipient.

In French Level 5A: Suzanne Arian, 85th percentile, rank 5 in Ohio and 10 in the nation, bronze medal recipient; David Barach, 90th percentile, rank 4 in Ohio and 9 in the nation, bronze medal recipient; and Samhita Pennathur, 85th percentile, rank 5 in Ohio and 10 in the nation, bronze medal recipient.

In French Level 5C: Julie Gyurgyik, 95th percentile, rank 3 in Ohio and 6 in the nation, silver medal recipient; Florian Mockel, 95th percentile, rank 2 in Ohio and 4 in the nation, silver medal recipient; and Lawrence Neil, 85th percentile.

The students’ French teachers are Suzanne Gyurgik and Eileen Willis.
