Shaker Heights High School will inaugurate an engineering applications course beginning in the 2007-08 school year.

This elective course will provide students with opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge learned in their science classes and to explore engineering as a possible career path. The course is being developed by faculty members from Shaker and the Cleveland State University engineering school.

Engineering Applications, an honors-level course, will expose to students to a range of engineering genres, including mechanical, civil, computer, electrical, systems, mechatronics, aeronautical, structural, and biomedical. The class will be open to seniors who are taking Honors or Advanced Placement mathematics and physics.

This is the second higher-level addition to the High School science curriculum in two years. Last year, Advanced Placement biology was added as a 10th-grade elective.
