Katherine Stone KaufmannKatherine Stone Kaufmann, ’63, is a recently retired psychotherapist who has devoted herself to both clinical work and a wide range of not-for-profit causes, including education, health, LGBTQ issues, mental health and Unitarian Universalism. Kathy attended Wellesley College where she majored in psychology and graduated with highest honors. She then earned an MSW at the Simmons College School of Social Work and an EdD at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. While a student at Shaker, Kathy was an AFS foreign exchange student to Pakistan, an experience that transformed her sense of self and played an important role in her determination to make a difference in the lives of others. She has held a number of leadership roles and is most honored to have served on the Board of Trustees of Wellesley College and to have helped found two organizations, OUT MetroWest, the first and only non-profit organization serving LGBTQ youth in MetroWest Boston, and the Wellesley Centers for Women, the leading gender-based research center in the country. When she graduated from Shaker, Kathy won two Outstanding Female Student Awards, one voted by her classmates and one voted by the faculty.
