| A Night for the Red & White
What is A Night for the Red & White?
A Night for the Red & White is a gala event that raises money for enrichment projects and activities focusing on the arts, humanities, technology and health and fitness in the Shaker School District. It is a celebration of our community and our schools working together for a shared objective. The event is hosted by the Friends of the Shaker Schools Foundation, a large and diverse group of volunteers.
When and where is next year’s event?
A Night for the Red & White will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011, 7:00 p.m., at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights. Each year, more than 800 enthusiastic supporters attend the festive gala, which includes buffet-style dining, dancing, silent auction, student art show and student performances.
How much has been raised by A Night for the Red & White… And how will the proceeds be used?
Since the first benefit in 1992, more than $1.8 million has been raised for the enrichment of arts, humanities, and technology. Next year the funds will again be used for the enrichment of technology, arts, humanities, and health and fitness.
Property taxes support the schools. Why hold a benefit?
The Shaker schools are known for their traditionally high level of public support through bond issues and tax levies. However, private contributors have donated funds for items above and beyond the responsibilities of the district’s budget. Your donation will serve to perpetuate and strengthen this tradition of generosity.
Are contributions tax-deductible?
Does your company have a matching gift program?
Your ticket donation to A Night for the Red & White is tax-deductible minus the goods and services. Please contact your Human Resource Department to determine if your company has a matching gift program.

History
A Night for the Red & White was started in 1992 by several parents who wanted to raise money for technology enrichment. The first event was to be held at the new Heinen’s at Shaker Towne Center, but when the attendance topped 300 the benefit was moved to the Omni Hotel adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic. This first Red & White raised approximately $42,220 for our students. The gala remained at the Omni through 1998, and ach year the attendance grew. By 1999, when the party was moved to TRW, the number of party goers was 850. Next came three years at the Cleveland Browns Stadium and then a year at the State Theatre. The next six years were at the InterContinental Hotel, and the most recent Red & White was held at Landerhaven. Over 800 partygoers continue to enjoy the event each year with the profits for our students totaling over $1.8 million.
