High School Auditorium Campaign

The Shaker Heights City Schools, Shaker Schools Foundation, and City Architecture have received a 2008 Ohio Historical Society award for the renovation and restoration of the large auditorium. The Foundation collaborated with the School District by raising $1.2 million to support the $2.4-million capital improvements project. This is the large auditorium’s first major renovation since the High School opened in 1931, and City Architecture served as the designer. Work began in June 2007 and was completed by the end of that year. The large auditorium reopened in January 2008, restored to its original beauty and equipped with state-of-the-art theatrical lighting and sound systems. Thanks to the generosity of donors to the Shaker Schools Foundation, the large auditorium again supports the excellence of Shaker Heights High School’s performing arts programs.
Built in 1931, the Large Auditorium is used on a daily basis by music and theater students, as well as by the entire school district for meetings and ceremonies.
The refurbished auditorium is restored to its original beauty, has state-of-the art equipment for performing arts, and is an enhanced teaching and learning space. Shaker Life magazine wrote an article highlighting the effort in Spring '07.
The public reopening of the Large Auditorium was held on Saturday, February 2, 2008.

Contributions toward the campaign are still being gratefully accepted. We can accept your pledge to support the campaign as well as your contribution to endow a seat. Seat endowments can be used to honor students, teachers, and families.
