AIMSweb is used to monitor and track students' progress as often as weekly.
Students in second grade take AIMSweb tests in reading and math. For reading, students take 2 tests: Reading Maze and Reading Curriculum-Based Measurement (R-CBM). For math students take 2 tests: Math Concepts and Applications (M-CAP) and Math Computation (M-Comp). These are described below (some samples are from other grade levels).
Reading Maze - students read a passage for 3 minutes. In places where there are 3 possible words, they need to select the word that correctly fits in the passage. Click on the blue link for a sample passage from a first grade reading maze test.
Reading Curriculum-Based Measurement (R-CBM) - individually administered; assesses oral reading. Students read from a passage for 1 minute. Clicking on the blue link will take you to a sample oral reading passage for a first grader.
Math Concepts and Applications (M-CAP) - assesses basic math concepts in the areas of numbers and operations (base 10 and place value) and measurement (linear measurement and length). Click on the blue link for a sample from the 2nd grade M-CAP.
- Math Computation (M-Comp) - covers the following:
- Size of numbers
- Column addition
- Basic facts
- Complex computation
