Transportation Department

Shaker Heights City Schools provides transportation for eligible resident pupils in Grades K-8. There is no school bus transportation for high school students (public transportation passes can be purchased in the High School main office).

Here Comes the Bus
For students who are eligible for transportation, Shaker Heights City Schools is happy to announce the adoption of an innovative mobile device app and website titled Here Comes the Bus®. Here Comes the Bus allows the user to view the location of the bus and receive alerts when the bus is approaching the assigned bus stop based on the settings that the user creates for their account. Here Comes the Bus also allows the Transportation Department to send messages to parents when there is a bus change, delay, or breakdown.

To obtain your school year bus stop information prior to the start of school, please click here to sign up. Signup instructions and information are included below:

Note: School bus number information will only show on the Here Comes the Bus website and not on the app.

Starting in mid-August, families may also obtain their student’s school bus information in PowerSchool (through a web browser, not the app). School bus schedules can be found by logging into your child’s PowerSchool page and clicking on the “Bus Route” link along the left sidebar in PowerSchool's Parent Portal. Available information includes a student's bus number, stop location, and stop times.

Alternate Stop and Special Requests

The Transportation Department will consider alternate stop locations and special requests. Requests must be submitted annually on a Transportation Change Request Form. Download a form here.

Mission & Vision Statements

Mission

The mission of the Transportation Department is to provide safe, professional and efficient transportation for students to and from school; and all extracurricular activities and school-related events.

We provide safe, reliable, on-time service with professional drivers, well-maintained buses and a competent staff. Each day, we transport more than 2,500 students to school – almost half of the District's entire student population. In addition, we safely transport students to more than 1,700 field trips and other events during the year.

All of our bus drivers meet Ohio Department of Transportation standards for school bus operations to include: a commercial driver's license (CDL), annual physical, background check, drug-testing, and mandatory training requirements to include testing by a state examiner. All of our buses are annually inspected before school starts by an Ohio State Highway Patrol examiner. We also have three spot checks throughout the year by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. All of our buses are checked before and after each trip and our mechanics ensure that the buses are maintained in top condition. Our mechanics also work to maintain our administrative vehicles in safe condition. The Shaker Heights Schools bus safety record is among the best in the state.

Vision

To become recognized for first-class, student transportation services.
