Spring Break Service Trip

The goal of this service immersion trip is to open the door to the how other cultures and communities live in our world and to create an opportunity for Shaker students to expand their understanding of the world by providing an international trip to the developing world. The trip embodies the International Baccalaureate (IB) mission statement, which states our goal is to “encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.”

Eligibility: Students must apply and a small group of thoughtful committed students are chosen each September. Preference is given to juniors and seniors and all students must be have good attendance and be in good academic standing. Partial scholarships are available.

Trip Location: Our trip locations varies depending on cost, stability of the country and demand of students. We try to rotate so if students wish to go on more than one trip, they can go to various locations. Trip destinations have included Cambodia, Peru, Morocco, Laos and Vietnam.

Tanzania

The Tanzania summer trip allows students to join service with a safari. The students will contribute to a sustained relationship with a friendly and welcoming community outside Arusha, as they participate in a long-term service construction project. No trip to East Africa is complete without an epic safari in Tarangire National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater.
