Kindergarten Early Entrance Evaluations

The decision to admit a child to kindergarten as an early entrant is an extremely important one which will have ramifications for the rest of a child's life. Reflecting the importance of this decision, the Shaker Heights City Schools have revised the Early Entrance Evaluation process.

For those children who do not meet the age requirements (five by September 30) established by the Ohio Department of Education, but will be five years of age on or before January 1, (inclusive) of any school year, a multi-step evaluation is administered annually (specific dates are determined prior to testing) by qualified school personnel. This research-based evaluation is currently the only one approved by the Ohio Department of Education.

Once registered, a parent/guardian completes the early entrance to kindergarten referral and submits it to the principal of the child’s assigned school. The Early Entrance to Kindergarten referral process will open April 1Applications received for eligible students between April 1-May 20 will have the early entrance assessment completed during the month of June. Applications received between May 21-June 24 will be completed in August. Families will be notified at the start of the assessment window to schedule.
